This silver Greek coin has lived ‘Forever’.
A silver tetradrachm, depicting Alexander the Great on the obverse (face side) and Zeus with an eagle and his staff (including the mint marks) on the reverse.
Alexander, was often referred to as a god, due to his prowess in warfare, and compared to Herakles (Hercules). Here, he is depicted wearing the head of the Nemean Lion, Herakles first labour, whom he conquered.
This coin, minted in Babylon during Alexander’s lifetime, and around when he was crowned the King of Asia and had the largest empire in the ancient world, has already lived a lifetime: 2300 years.
